Larry “Duane” Lindberg, 92, of Stanley, ND, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley, ND.

Larry Duane Lindberg was born to Frank and Ruth Lindberg in Powers Lake, ND on November 23, 1931. Duane absolutely adored his only sister, Betty Boop! He attended grade school at a country school in Burke County and graduated from Kenmare High School with the class of 1949. While in high school Duane was a heck of a football player, and after graduation he attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND on a football scholarship. He broke his collarbone on the second day of practice and in order to keep his scholarship he wound all the clocks on campus!

He was a great carpenter and a very talented wood worker. Duane would make toys by hand for his kids and grandchildren. Another passion of Duane’s was hunting, fishing, and trapping. He shot his first deer with a 80lb bamboo straight bow in 1953. He was incredibly business savvy, and also a humble man who volunteered many years driving ambulance and driving veterans to the VA hospital. Duane always remembered everyone’s important dates and birthdays, always had others laughing at his jokes or stories, and always supported his grandchildren in all of their endeavors.

Duane was a loyal, loving, husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was hard-working and dedicated to his family, friend, and community and Duane was always willing and ready to help. Duane was active and served on many boards in the community and was a founding member for the local AA chapter, Duane was sober for 43 years.

Duane was survived by his wife, Janice Lindberg; son, Daniel Lindberg; daughter-in-law, Shanna Lucy; daughter, LuAnn Lindberg; Melisa Osterman who he loved as a daughter; grandchildren, Shantel (Ben) Arends, Chase Lindberg, Kaitlynn Lindberg; great-grandchildren, Grayson, Moxon, Bjorn, Meadow; step- children, Wendy (Billy) Hess, Brent (McKenzie) Welsh, Ryan (Megan) Welsh, Tracie (Seth) Hill; step-grandchildren, Taylor (Lindsey), Dawson, Conner, Luna; and step great-grandchild, Kaelynn.

Preceding Duane in death were his parents, Frank and Ruth; his first wife, Ellen Lindberg; sister and brother in law, Betty and Jerald Haskins; and daughter in law, Karen Lindberg.
