We have been friends with Wayne and Sharon for more than 50 years. Wayne was to me the older brother I never had. We shared many good times together as our children were growing up and well beyond that time. We will definitely miss Wayne and will be praying for Wayne, Sharon, Heather and Justin and their families.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Wayne. I first met Wayne at UND-Williston. He was teaching Ag classes and I was in the PTA program (and eventually taught in the program making me a co-worker). Gatherings on campus would be entertaining with Wayne, Roger Halverson, Arne Lunzman, Bob Bell, Gerald Basol. I graduated from high school with Heather. Justin was a student of mine in the PTA program. Wayne was smart, articulate, quiet, and well respected. He made my first years teaching a great experience.

Wayne and I would text back and forth quite often, mostly with him asking me a question, which would spark a whole string of texts back and forth as we tried to come up with an answer to his BBQ (Big Burning Question).

I worked with Wayne early in my NRCS career on a warm season Plant Materials Planting with many replications. Recently, I reached out to him as a mentor for questions for our ranch with grazing and infrastructure and he gave me more contacts. So grateful for his kindness and sharing. He really cared and wanted to best for the people and the natural resources.

Sharon Heather and Justin and families,
Not even sure where to start.
Was reading through old messages between Wayne and myself. So many random texts.
Some have special meaning. He would always tell me on certain dates of someone's birthday or date of their death. Of course then we would get into a conversation about that person. Loved his "history" lessons.
One time I came home from work and there were some things in my yard. Yes he was the culprit.
I loved when he would come to Sidney for the day and would stop in and see me. Always got the cousin hug.
I could go on and on about Wayne but you all know what a great person he was.
Treasure those memories.

What do I say Wayne you were and will always be my favorite professor. You always made me think of the Paul Harvey segment of "So God Made a Farmer". I will always remember being a nervous student from the south as you asked me a question and I said yes Sir. You stopped to point out my accent and they way I had called you Sir and you pointed out to the class that I'm my culture it was a sign of respect for me to reply that way to you. A couple years after I had finished college you said the next time I was back in ND to let you know so I did and we met and ate at Dakota Farms and caught up it was great! I don't think many professors would do that with their old students but you would. You were a great man of integrity and I know everyone will miss you that knew you. Rest in Peace Sir

Greg and I met Wayne and Sharon at my dad’s funeral. Found out we were Bobcats and immediately had a friendship. Whenever we travel Wayne’s request was to text him towns we passed through and roads we were on. He would follow along on his atlas from his comfy chair at home. He shared lots of stories about places he had also been with colorful stories about traveling that road while he was with the National Guard. We will miss our armchair traveling companion. Will keep your family in our prayers.

I am heartbroken to hear of Wayne's passing. He and my dad were great friends through cattle and grass. And when my dad passed away a few years ago, Wayne became one of my biggest supporters and was always there to send me an encouraging message and to say he drove by the ranch and the grass and the cows looked great. He would tell me I am doing a great job and my dad would be proud of me. I am so glad him and Sharon stopped by the ranch this spring to visit, my mom and I really enjoyed that. He was such a fun, kind and knowledgeable man. I will miss my conversations with him dearly. Sharon and family, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I have known Wayne since college days. In the past 5 years I got to know him more. He was always so very helpful to me with my cousins estate, and sent me encouraging things he had read in his morning devotionals. He was such a help and we had good conversations about pasture grass and life in general. He enriched by life greatly with his kind spirit and wit. I can only hope to aspire to be a blessing to others as he was to me. Love and prayers to you all.

Wayne Berry was my college advisor and teacher, and to this day I still tell everyone how he “tricked” me into taking Curling because “that was what all the Ag Club kids were taking.” I once told him that little bluestem was my favorite grass—he got such a laugh out of that, and even up to August of this year, 26 years later, he would still leave a comment about little bluestem. That was just who he was—thoughtful, funny, and someone who never forgot his students. Mr. Berry was a heck of a guy who left an impression on every life he touched. He truly will be missed.

Wayne was asst county agent while I was in 4-H. He was a fabulous influence in my life! In the 80's he inspired vendors with his pep talks during coffee & donut mornings before the Home & Trade Show opened. My cousin Kathi says you were so good to Dana! We have great appreciation for Sharon & Wayne during that difficult time! Love & sympathy, C'Dale

Our condolences on the passing of Wayne. A favorite memory of ours is of Mr. B and his famous flannel shirt at the cross country meets. He could be seen on the sidelines swinging that flannel shirt wildly above his head to cheer our boys on. I think we all came to think of that as our lucky charm! Enjoy those memories of a remarkable man.
