Susan Valerie Herness
September 29, 1951 - March 6, 2020

Residence: Texas, formerly of Culbertson, MT

Susan Valerie Herness was born September 29, 1951 in Culbertson, Montana and passed away in Presidio, Texas on March 6, 2020. She was the oldest of five daughters born to Plenny and Evelyn Herness and raised on the family farm south of Culbertson. Her hobbies as a kid were dressing up her sisters, doing their hair, and making them listen to various records from the “4 Seasons” to “Elvis”.

Sue attended middle school at Cherry Creek School until eventually heading to the “big” city of Culbertson for high school. There she participated in cheerleading, choir and was the princess at prom in 1968. Following high school, Sue attended Beauty College and was a hair stylist for over 30 years. Living in various towns, meeting lots of new clients that became lifelong friends.
Sue was a wonderful cook, baker and made the best coffee. When she was in Plentywood she did a Champagne Brunch at The Golden Wheel. She made fresh pastries and breads and everything else needed for a brunch. It was a huge success and people came from everywhere.

Sue had four beautiful children, Stefanie Dosch, Jeremy Timm, Tanner Smith and Chance Chandler. Mom always was a great cook and was never seen without a cup of coffee! She had an infectious laugh and made sure her children had a relationship with the Lord.

In her later years, Sue spent spreading God’s word to many people. Her faith was undeniable, she traveled to multiple states, meeting new friends and spreading her faith everywhere she went. Sue bought her hacienda near Joseph City, AZ and began to be self-sufficient. She raised a garden, chickens and goats, did her own fencing, put up solar panels and dug a water well. Sue helped many people who were sick or lost by praying for them and with them. There was always a sense of peace after spending time with her. She had her calling!

She is survived by her children, Stefanie (Dalton) Dosch, Jeremy (Jamie) Timm, Tanner (Heather) Smith, and Chance (Michelle) Chandler; grandchildren, Erica Aakre, Grace Timm, Sophia Timm, Emma Timm, Kanin Smith, Blythe Chandler, Rowyn Chandler and two more on the way; great grandchildren, Declan Nicholson and Asher Nicholson; sisters, Toni Pahl, Julie (Ted Williams) and Vicky Herness; nephews and nieces, Peter Pahl, Abby Sherman, Brent Meissel, Brenda Vershoot, James Meissel, Amy Hayden, Mike Meissel, Nick Williams and Dessie Peterson.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents; parents, Plenny and Evelyn Herness; sister, Faye Meissel; nephew, Joey Pahl and brother-in-law Art Pahl.

There is an absolute hole in my heart that had her name on it - how I loved that girl. Her smile, her laughter, her friendship and her sorrows. We shared all that and more. Let the angels take care of you Susan.

I met Susan when she lived in Alaska. Pennie Muth introduced me to her. Susan loved to pray for everyone she knew. She loved Jesus and she loved her children, grandchildren, Rich and Shirley and all of her many close friends. If you knew her, she was praying for you. She loved you all and, of course, we all know how much she loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Susan must be having so much fun in HEAVEN. Thank you everybody who loved Susan on this earth. May all of your lives be blessed. May all of Susan's prayers for all you come to pass....in Jesus' name....Amen..

Tanner, I’m sorry for loss of your mother. I’m sure this is hard for you and your family since you recently lost your father not that long ago. You know that God has taken both of them home. Take care until you see them again. Sheila

So sorry to hear of Susan’s passing! So many memories at Cherry Creek school....Susan would bring her records to school and we would dance at recess time. I remember sleepovers where we would dress up as cheerleaders and practice our cheers. My heartfelt condolences to all of Susan’s family...thoughts and prayers are with you.

Bill and I met Susan at First Baptist Church. When we found out we shared the same birth date and she was just 1 year older than me. I was ecstatic! I finally have an older sister!
Her love for our Lord just beamed from her no matter what she was going through! She was a strong, faithful example for both of us. Bill and I visited her at her place North of Joseph City on the reservation. She was a very self sustaining and amazing daughter of Yahweh! His Peace was felt anytime you were around her.
As her family travels a new journey, remember always, you still have her love in your heart! No one can ever take that from you. Your memories are precious - hold onto them. When it gets to be more than you think you can bare cling to Your Heavenly Father! Prayers for Susan's entire family!
