Lois “Joan” Fladeland, 82, of Stanley, ND passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Ascension Health in Fargo, ND.

Joan Skaar was born July 28th, 1938 to Lars and Bertha Skaar in Stanley, ND. She was raised and graduated high school there.

Joan and Robert Fladeland were married September 13th, 1956 in Stanley, they moved to Tioga, Robert worked for an oil company so they also lived in various towns before settling back in New Town. By this time, they had their four children to raise, Charmaine, Daniel, Bradley, and Debra. When the children were all in school Joan went to work at the New Town nursing home as a nurse’s aide and later becoming the Dietary Supervisor, and retired in 1983 after 12 years of service.

After retirement she did what she loved the most, taking care of her five grandchildren until they went to school. Joan and Robert camped and fished during the summer months with close friends, bowled on a couple’s league and just enjoyed life. Joan was an avid reader, loved to embroider and do word puzzles. Joan also loved having every Holiday, she enjoyed cooking and having all her family over to celebrate, but first was her faith and dedication to saying her daily rosary.

Joan is survived by her husband, Robert of 64 years; children, Charmaine Satermo, Daniel Fladeland (Ginger), Bradley Fladeland (Michelle), and Debra Fladeland; grandchildren, Darcy VerDouw (Brian), Dawn Springer (Bill), Keli Bukowski (Josh) Josh Uran, Ashley James (Jay), Fallon Fladeland (Michael), Nicole Fladeland, Danielle Fladeland; great grandchildren, Maddie, Charlie, Nolan VerDouw, Ella, Julian, Camille Springer, Dylan and Eli Barone, Cole and Jade Bukowski, Kayle, Kaden and Kilianna Uran, Laticia and Ashtyon James; sisters, Dorothy Davis, Shirley McCloskey and Rosie Benetti.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lars and Bertha Skaar; sisters, Carol Thronson, Donna Johnson, and Delores Bowker, and her only brother, Lars Skaar Jr.
