Curtis Gilbert Basiak was born April 23, 1946 in Fairview, MT to Chester Basiak and Anne C. Miller. He attended school in Fairview and later in Pleasanton, CA, graduating in 1965.
Curtis worked various jobs including rig work, until going to work for Sidney Schools as a custodian, retiring in 2011.
Curtis was united in marriage to Johanna Mann on September 6, 2003. They were happily married for eighteen years. Early in their marriage, they enjoyed traveling with group tours, including Hwy 1 along the coast of California, and a bus tour to Branson, MO. Drives through the Teddy Roosevelt Park were also greatly enjoyed. They were both active members of the Elks and Moose lodges with Curtis holding various offices with the Moose through the years. They were also member of the Lonsdale Methodist Church for many years.
Curtis loved to go fishing. Many hours were spent on the banks of the Yellowstone River with his friend, Milo.
Curtis is survived by; his wife, Johanna; his step daughter, Patti Mann of Sidney; his son, from his first marriage, James (Amy) Helman, and their three children, James, Solana, and Maya of Hermiston, OR.
Curtis is preceded in death by; his parents, and his brothers, Harold and James.

Curtis was my room's custodian at Westside Elementary when I first started teaching. He was such a nice, hard-working man.. i enjoyed visiting with him. Sorry to hear of his passing.

Curtis was a very good friend while I was in high school. We even had our first date with girls together. Sorry to here of his passing. Prayers to the the family.

I remember when I started working for the school, Curtis worked at the same one, and was one of the nicest people. After school he would go and get my daughters chocolate milks and snacks, and bring them to the room. Always had a smile. Will miss him.

Oh Curtis, you were one of the best people I had in my life. You and Jo were the best of the best. I'll miss your advice and goofy jokes. Missy still has her art kit that you and Jo sent her for Christmas, and you'd be so proud of all of the beautiful things she painted. You were like a grandpa she didn't have, and so very loved by us. I'm so sorry Jo, I wish I could be there with you. You both meant and mean the world to us.

So sorry to hear about Curtis. He was a good person. We were closer when I was younger. Lost contact as our lives went their own ways. I know he will be missed by many. We were 2nd cousins.

I had known Curtis since I was around 7yrs old. When we all lived on the north Dakota side in Fairview. I believe I only seen him once since then. Condolences to his wife and family.
