Shirley Grady 85, of Stanley, ND, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley, ND.

Shirley (Leading Woman) was born on June 11, 1936 in Minot, ND to Minot & Frances (Young Wolf) Grady. Shirley was a member of the Low Cap Clan and child of the Water Buster. She was raised by her grandmother Juneberries in Little Shell village. Shirley had the love for horses and grew up on horseback and was an avid horsewomen. She was very passionate about drawing pictures of horses since she was very little and if you were lucky, she gave you a Christmas or birthday card she made with the pictures she drew. She later put horses on the beautiful quilts she sewed. She starting sewing and beading at the age of 8 or 9. She’s had many customers over the years, several from out of state, purchasing items such as quilts, shirts, shawls, dresses, dance outfits. Some of her quilts have been displayed on posters and featured on brochures, many of her quilts placed 1st in contests she entered. Shirley was very talented and many of her unique designs she used she created herself.

She went to school and graduated from Flandreau, South Dakota. Shirley was once married and from this union she had one son, Kenny whom she loved very much and I’m sure they celebrated when they saw one another again. She also enjoyed spending time in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, you could just see the pride and joy in her eyes as she held them in her arms. She just recently mentioned “Who would have ever thought that I would have 9 great-grandchildren.” You could just hear the pride in her voice.

Shirley enjoyed listening to county and heavy metal music and her favorite color was purple. She liked sharing stories of days passed with family and friends. She also adored animals and she’s had a few cherished pets over the years that she loved spoiling.

At the time of her passing Shirley was a resident of the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley, North Dakota, where she enjoyed the company of many friends she’s made over the years. Shirley will be truly missed by her family and friends.
