Myrna Mickelsen, 86, of Stanley, North Dakota was peacefully called home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 3, 2022.
Myrna was born on May 31, 1935 to Mabel and Jester Malum in Stanley, North Dakota. Her education started in the Lundt Country School north of Palermo, North Dakota. Myrna and her mother moved to Minot, North Dakota where she finished high school at the Dakota Lutheran Academy and graduated in 1954. She then went onto college at NDSSS where she graduated in 1958 with her LPN Nursing degree.
Myrna took a job at the Stanley Hospital where she met Ruth Mickelsen. Ruth took her to the farm where she met the love of her life, Anton. The couple got married on June 1, 1958 in Lostwood, North Dakota. They lived many places starting in Kenmare, North Dakota, Sidney, Montana, and Everett, Washington. In 1965 the couple moved home when Myrna’s aunt and uncle asked them to take over the farm north of Palermo, North Dakota. This is where they would start their family. Myrna made a career at the Mountrail County Bethel Home and did home health care for many years in the surrounding areas.
When Myrna and Anton became grandparents, they decided to move into town to work and help with their seven grandchildren. Sadly, Myrna was diagnosed with Dementia, and with the help of her husband and kids she was able to stay in her home until her passing.
Myrna is survived by her husband, Anton Mickelsen; son, Mike Mickelsen; daughters, Melanie (Wade) Edwards and Miriam Olson; grandchildren, Gabriel Lindley, Justin Mackay, Quinlan Lindley, Megan Lindley, Makenna Lindley, Elizabeth Lindley, Tully Lindley; and many friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Jester Mahlum; and many aunts and uncles.
