Darrie L. Lindberg, 79, of Stanley, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the Trinity Health Hospital in Minot, North Dakota.
Darrie was born on November 14, 1944 to Albert and Margaret (Johnson) Lindberg. He grew up on a farm 20 miles north of Stanley, North Dakota with his parents and sister, Leona. Darrie loved this farm and remained there for the duration of his life. Darrie attended a country school until he was in 8th grade and finished his formal education at Powers Lake High School, graduating in 1962. Darrie married three times and was blessed with five children from these marriages.
Darrie was a cattle rancher on his family farm. He also worked outside the farm on various oil related jobs for over 40 years of his life. He was the last surviving worker on the Discovery well in Alaska. He worked in Alaska, Montana, South Dakota and North Dakota doing different jobs in the oil field. Additionally, in his early adulthood, he was one of the few equine Farrier’s in Northwestern North Dakota. Darrie always had a passion for horses which was evident through the several horses he trained and jockeyed for horse races around the county. When he no longer jockeyed, he would continue to train horses for racing. Darrie also guided big game hunting trips on horseback for people throughout Alaska, Canada, and Montana.
Darrie had a vibrant array of hobbies, including his passion for hunting. Engaging in discussions about hunting was a favorite pastime for him, as he went on many hunting trips for various game throughout Canada, Montana, Alaska, and North Dakota. Darrie also cherished fishing excursions in Canada, along the Missouri River, and at local lakes. Whether with friends or family, he loved to get together to play cards. Darrie loved gathering for coffee or a beer with his friends, where he would entertain with his jokes. He had a colorful way of telling a story, poem or joke that made him unlike anyone else. This along with his strong opinions about a variety of topics, made Darrie a force to be reckoned with. Darrie was an individual who leaves an impression that is hard to forget for all who knew him.
Darrie was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Albert Lindberg; and his nephew, Jeff Sheets.
He is survived by his wife, LaWanda (LaFrance) Lindberg; daughter, Michelle (Steve) Loll and their children Tiffany, Lindsey, Danica and Logan; son, Frank (Amber) Lindberg and their children Clayton, Ryilee, Sydney, Ethan, Jazmine, and Landon; daughter, Stacy Lindberg and her children Tallon and Soren; daughter, Kasey (Brian) Welken and their children Avery, Logan, Chase, Taylor and Mason; daughter, Cierra (Daryn) Lindberg and their children Logyn, Braxton, Parker, Odyn, and Remy; sister, Leona Sheets; and his nephew, Scott Sheets.
Memorial Contribution
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
