Brenda Kay Smith “Midahudzi” 59, New Town, ND. Passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 9, 2025, in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

"When I leave, don't cry. Embrace my life knowing that I loved you all. Embrace my Heir and My Spare. Hold them standing up as you were all always Aunty/Mom, Uncle, Gramma and Grandpa. See me living through their eyes. I have walked on but am still here through them. I love them both so much. See me through my sister and brothers’ eyes. Even my Grandchildren. Especially my “Huffybens.” I loved just as hard as I was loved. Please don't cry. You're going to make me cry and I'll stick around until your tears stop."

I've lived a good, beautiful life. I'm the 10th child out of 11 from Arthur Clyde Smith (Eexabish Mandan/Hidatsa Mecirooga) and Isabelle Florence Good Iron Smith. (Aadi Xubaash given by the Dancing Bull/Jackson family and Maakia eda given by Mary Hall of Sioux Valley, Manitoba Canada Hunkpapa/Dakota Standing Rock Tribe Awa Xee adopted by the Dancing Bull/Jackson family. I'm the youngest of 6 girls. Janice Smith passed away 2018, Patsy Seaboy (Nicodemus Danny) passed away 2021, Doris Fox (Paul Lee Fox Sr.), passed away 2020, Valerie, year unknown of her passing. Barbara and myself. I have 5 brothers whom I loved and respected. Ronnie, (passed away 2004), Smoke or Tracey, (passed away 2002) Lyle “Swig”, (passed away 2017), Kenneth or Gravy boat (Passed away 2020) and Mikey Dot (2024) (Dayna Lone Bear). I've lived and learned about life thru my Grandparents Alfred Samuel and Philomine Gertrude Burr Smith. I was born and raised in Mandaree; N.D. Smoke and I were the only 2 born at home. Grandma Gertrude got to sign my Birth Certificate as attending physician. I was a true farm girl. Hanging on to my Daddy in all our daily chores. We were never inside kids. Always happiest on horseback or being outside in the sun, rain, heat or snow. We'd build caves or tunnels thru the fresh fallen snow. It was so beautiful and pure as the sun shone thru. I would think this is so close to what Heaven looked like. I loved flying on the back of our reddish-brown horse Major. Riding with Barbara, Mike, Lorna Hunts Along and Julie Wolf. I loved listening to music blasting loud from Doris’s stereo system while playing football, basketball, kickball and Dodgeball. The whole family including our extended family played. Many many a days and nights were spent playing outside. We'd all run and hide if we saw car lights coming down the road. I was given the name Midahudzi by Goldie Fox when I was 8 years old. I've always lived or been near to Janice. I moved with her to Brigham City, Utah, Sisseton and Aberdeen, South Dakota in my early years. Later, I moved back to New Town to stay. I married Franklin Lone Fight Jr. "Babes" in June 1995. We brought 2 beautiful babies into this world. Valerie Lone Fight “Blossom” (Kalib Allen Bruer) July 1995 and Jesse Storm “Comes Singing” who passed away 4 days after he was born in 1996. After Franklin and I divorced, I married Wade Tiokasin. We had 1 beautiful baby. Isabelle Gertrude Tiokasin “Yellow Butterfly” in 2000. We moved to Colorado Springs, CO for 4 years. We then moved to Oahu, Hawaii. We later divorced after our return home. We lived with Janice. My babies and my Stepchildren. Kenton and James Tiokasin. After Wade and I divorced, he and my boys moved home to Arizona. Even after the divorce, I remained close to the children and took them as my own.

I raised my girls in New Town, where we lived on Sand Hill. Where we lived in our little apartment with our dachshund Poesha. I worked as a cook at the Gerald Tex Fox Justice Center from its opening until 2011, when I moved jobs to the Child Program with my sister Barb. At this time, I had many friends and spent a lot of time with my nieces, running wild and free. I spent as much time as I could taking care of my mom and my dad. We spent many days at their apartment, or out and about. At this time, I also met my lifelong friend, Kelly Bliefernicht. I spent my days being with my family and loving my grandchildren as they came into our world. My daughter Valerie (The Heir) brought my favorite son-in-law Kalib into our lives, whom she married in 2019.

Following the loss of my parents and older sister Janice, my daughter Isabelle (The Spare) and I moved to 12th St in New Town. Where I lived my life until my passing. Spending my days with my daughters and our pets. I loved traveling and seeing new things. I loved hosting family and friends at my house, and cooking for them. We held game nights and watching the kids play Just Dance together.
