Dennis “Denny” Halvorson, 74, of Ross, North Dakota, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, with his daughters by his side at the Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota.
Dennis Clark Halvorson ‘Denny’ was born to Evelyn and Alvin Halvorson on January 26, 1951 in Stanley, North Dakota. He was the sixth of the ten children born to Evelyn and Alvin, and was raised on the family farmstead in Manitou, North Dakota. Denny loved living in Manitou. He knew when the Amtrak was coming through, and he could even tell you when it was running late. He loved watching the pheasant, deer, and moose come into the yard and hang out.
After high school he moved to Wyoming to follow his oilfield career. Denny worked over 25 years in the oilfield before he took a job for the federal government as a Rangland Management Specialist, which he did for 10 years. He fully retired in 2016 and enjoyed retirement life. Denny loved his coffee, a good meal, trips to the casino, and memories with his family. He enjoyed attending Stanley High School basketball games, and keeping track of players stats throughout the season each year. Denny was quick with dates of celebrations. A trait he learned from his mother Evelyn. He could tell you when someone was born, graduated, and married. Every birthday he knew how old that person was turning. He may not have realized how very helpful that was to all of us. He was so proud for the large family he was a part of and loved everyone dearly.
Denny was a proud father of his girls Dezi and Dawn. He loved being a grandfather and happily earned the nickname “Goofy Grampa”. He was especially proud of being a Great Grandfather and being able to take a five-generation photo with his mother. A precious memory for sure. Denny had quite a few mannerisms that made his character him. The big grin hello, the famous eye roll, a finger shake that could have meant ‘hey knock that off or go get that/go that way’, or the shoulder shrug with the look on his face meaning ‘I don’t know’. He carried these even on his last day.
Denny is survived by his daughters, Dezarae Ann (Chris) Glaholt and Dawn Marie (Eric) Scott; seven grandchildren, Cullen (Aeon), Sean, Cody (Brittany) Shaelynn (Nick), Kadynce, Kailee and Kherington; and four great grandchildren, Emily, Hudson, Haevyn and Hayes; siblings, Peggy (Norb) Weixel, Roger (Barb) Halvorson, Alvin Jr. (Lori) Halvorson, Kevin (Christine) Halvorson, and Karen (Mike) Lee; sister-in-law’s, Sharon Halvorson, Mary Halvorson, and Diane Halvorson; aunt, Rhoda Hickel; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Alvin; siblings, Richard, Robert, Rodney and Dave.
