Steven Vern Arnold, Age 79, of Sidney, MT went to be with the Lord on November 18, 2025, at Sidney Health Center due to ongoing health complications with his lungs and going through cancer treatment.
Steve was born October 27, 1946, in Santa Ana, California, the son of Chauncey and Pauline Arnold and the oldest of two. He grew up in Santa Ana, California. Growing up he enjoyed being a boy scout, surfing, hunting and fishing with his dad, playing baseball, and collecting baseball cards. Steve attended elementary school and high school in Santa Ana California. In high school he also attended the Disney Land college of food and had a job as lead foreman at Disney Land in concessions. After high school he joined the Air Force on August 15, 1969, and after an honorable discharge, continued his education at Chico State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering. After graduation, he accepted a job at Holly Sugar in Sidney, MT in 1974, as the shift superintendent, and later being the safety manager. He met his wife Barbara while working at the factory in 1977, and they were married August 31, 1979, in Las Vegas, NV at the Little Chapel of the Flowers. To this union Barb’s son Richard and daughter Connie were added, and later Melissa was born in 1980 and Jeff in 1982. He was a great dad who, although work took a lot of his time, he still made time for his family. Steve continued his career at Holly Sugar, later becoming American Crystal for 40 years and retired from there in 2013. He took pride in his work and truly enjoyed training and teaching his employees.
Steve was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa. His pride and joy were his family, and he enjoyed spending time together, including annual summer vacations in the motorhome he inherited from his parents, going out to eat, playing games with his grandkids, and spending time with his wife doing yardwork and enjoying time on their deck. He treasured his friends and enjoyed going out to eat with them. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, baking cookies, as well as cooking, taking pictures, and often wrote the Christmas letter each year for friends and family. He was a devout Christian and a member of Bible Baptist Church in Sidney, MT.
Steve is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Arnold; children Richard Schwartzenberger, Connie Sheehan, Melissa (Brad) Bishop, and Jeff Arnold; grandchildren Sydney Sheehan, Brayden Schwartzenberger, Emily Bishop, Dani Sheehan, Kyler Schwartzenberger, Kally Bishop, Riley Bishop, Jaxon Arnold, Wyatt Bishop, and Gracie Bishop and grandchildren of the heart Jaden Gores and Julia Gores.
