Kent Erwin Hanson of McGregor, North Dakota passed away Friday morning, December 12, 2025 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Jamestown, North Dakota at the age of 56.

Kent was born in Fargo, North Dakota on September 8, 1969. He was adopted by Erwin and Janice Hanson, made official December 16th, 1969. He was a devoted son, brother, father and friend to many.

Growing up in McGregor with his older sister, Susan (Hanson) Plutowski, Kent was very loved by his mother, father, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc. The family went on many adventures including Disney Land and to Washington State to visit relatives almost every summer.

He worked beside his dad on the farm from a very young age and spent many long hot summer days behind the wheel of a tractor, and was often caught napping in the recliner with his dad after a long days work. As he grew up he continued to help on the farm by taking on more responsibilities, and helping fix equipment.

Kent attended the Tioga School District, where he was involved in many extracurricular activities such as track, and basketball. He had many friends through his school years, he was a happy go lucky kind of guy. In his junior year he joined a band with Mark Schmit, Darrin Gohrick, Steve Grubb, & Kevin Moberg from 1987 to ’89.

He graduated High School in 1988 and attended the North Dakota State Collage of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He graduated in March of 1991 with a degree in Automotive Technology.

In May of 1992 he met Terry Schroder-West, they started dating and were married on May 19, 1993 in Stanley, ND at the County Court House. They welcomed their first born Dacotah Hanson on January 11th 1994, then welcomed their second born Bree Hanson on April 1, 1996.

He worked for Midwestern Roustabout then as a mechanic with Farmers Union Oil Co. in Powers Lake, ND and transferred to the Tioga shop. In 2009 he went to work in the oilfield for Hess.

Over the years Kent enjoyed watching his kids grow up, he was the fun dad. He was young at heart. Lifted trucks, loud music, four wheelers, camping, hunting, fishing and adventure. He loved his family and his friends. He was always ready for that next four-wheeler ride, and camping or fishing trip.

Kent is preceded in death by his father, Erwin Hanson; grandmother, Elsie Barden & grandfather, Vernon (Bones) Barden.

He is survived by his two children, Dacotah Hanson, Bismarck, ND, and Bree Hanson (Tyler Orr), McGregor, ND; his mother, Janice M Hanson, Phoenix, AZ; sister, Susan Plutowski; brother-in-law, Daren Plutowski; and his three nephews, Drew, Lane (Kayla) & Ryan (Joy) Plutowski of Phoenix AZ.

I was shocked to hear you left this world, but will treasure the wonderful memories we all had back in the day with Super Bowl snowmobile parties, talking on our CB radios, your love of sci-fi and Opus from Bloom County, and most importantly, your love of your kids. My prayers go out to Bree, Dacotah, and Terry.
