Leon Gale Moe, 79, of Tioga, passed away peacefully, on Monday June 22, 2026, after a short yet courageous battle with cancer, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Leon Gale Moe was born November 27, 1946, in Williston ND to Carlie and Ida Moe. He grew up in Tioga and attended Tioga Public Schools. He went on to work in the oil field on the workover rigs. He was drafted into the US Army from 1966-1968. He served in the 33rd Armor Division Company C-2nd Battalion. He was stationed in Ayers Kaserne, Germany. In 1967 he earned top main gun leader and won top armored tank driver in 68’. He was honorably discharged as an E5 SPEC 5. Upon his return from the service, Leon returned to working in the oil field until 1975.
In 1972, Leon purchased part of Carlie and Ida’s farm. He married Debbie Fifer in 1970 and from that union, his two daughters, Jennifer and Alicia, were born. Leon went to work for Gene’s Plumbing in 1975. He attended plumbing school in Wahpeton and earned his Master Plumbing License. In 1986, Leon started his own plumbing business until 1992. He then went to work for the Tioga Medical Center in maintenance and plumbing, in 1992 until he retired in 2008. Leon married Linda S Midbow in 1994 and together they raised quarter horses, until her death in 2003. Leon was known for being a hard worker and an honest man. He was always full of suggestions, just ask his girls!
Leon and Della Soiseth chose to spend their lives together in 2004 and were partners in life, for 23 years, until his death. Leon and Della loved spending time in their yard and garden, fishing at Smishek Lake, casino hopping, and cutting a rug on the dance floor. Turns out, Leon never caught a fish and Della caught them all! They took many roads trips to see the country, including Destin, DC, Memphis and Nashville. He enjoyed Nick and the Kid band in Laughlin and their early trip to Kool Deadwood Nights with family and friends.
He was a dedicated father and his presence will be missed, deeply. He threw many birthday parties, sleepovers, dances, and attended every aspect of their lives. He loved his girls with his whole heart and made sure to tell them how proud he was, every day. All, of their friends loved his famous pancakes! Leon loved music and you could always tell when a song touched his soul. His shoulders were going, feet were tapping and his fingers were snapping. He was proud that he taught his girls too two-step and loved dancing with them, every chance he could. They danced in the living room, at school parties he chaperoned, street dances and at many weddings. He was smooth on his feet and would glide across the dance floor.
To say Leon was a proud grandparent, is an understatement. He followed all 5, around the state to attend their activities. From racetracks to wrestling mats and football fields, to plays and concerts, to softball fields and volleyball courts and back around again. He would talk to anyone who would listen about how amazing they all are. Leon was especially so proud when his great-grandson Mason Leon Schwatrz was born and named after him.
Leon is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Wonser, husband Pete, Alicia Hoffman, husband Adam; grandchildren, Alexis, husband Darwin, Ethan, Ackenna, Piper, and Adler; great-grandchildren, Mason and Ava; partner-in-life Della Soiseth, Vickie and John Schmill and family, Debbie Jorstad and family, Greg and Michelle Soiseth and family, 2 step children, Shannon (Shane) Mollet (Haley and Kate) and family, Brandon Midbow; family of the late Linda S.
