Gene Ann "Genie" Lang was born in Washington, D.C., on May 21, 1945, to Eugene and Hope Gillette. Her childhood unfolded in Kalispell, MT, where Flathead Lake became the backdrop of her fondest memories. It was there, in the sixth grade, that she found her lifelong friend, Nancy Manning, and together they spent countless summers boating & waterskiing with their lake friends.
In high school, Genie was a vibrant presence, balancing her talents across multiple endeavors. She played the flute, was on the high school golf team, participated in Pep Club, and held the esteemed title of Worthy Advisor for Rainbow for Girls. Yet, it was in dance where she truly excelled, mastering tap, ballet, and pointe ballet. Genie graduated from Flathead Valley High School at the top of her class in 1963, before continuing her education at the University of Idaho in Moscow.
In 1967, Genie moved to Sidney, MT, where fate brought her and Douglas together. Their time working side by side at Sidney National Bank flourished into a lifelong partnership, leading to their marriage on April 30, 1976. Together, they built a beautiful life, filled with love and devotion, as they raised their three children—Jodi, Jaime, and Brian.
Genie possessed countless gifts, yet none surpassed her unwavering love & loyalty to her family. Her children and grandchildren flourished under her devotion, surrounded by her encouragement, positivity, and deep compassion. Always radiating warmth and good humor, she created an atmosphere where love was felt, laughter was shared, and everyone she welcomed into her home became part of her extended family.
Genie was the epitome of a devoted sports & recreation enthusiast, a steadfast presence in the stands for generations. When her husband became part of the Eagle Chain Gang the year their son was born, Genie embraced her role as a passionate supporter, rarely missing a game. She spent years perched on the Eagle bleachers, watching her daughters cheer and her son as he battled on the basketball court and football & baseball fields. Her dedication only grew with time, seamlessly transitioning to support her grandchildren in every arena—dance performances, track meets, basketball, volleyball, soccer, Taekwondo, and golf. She then would travel across the country, from Minnesota for hockey, to Pennsylvania for football and basketball, ensuring she never missed a memorable occasion.
Many of Genie’s cherished friendships were formed during her years at Sidney Health Center, where her career in medical office administration was marked by dedication and service. She began working for Dr. Milton Smith for a number of years, later transitioning to Dr. Jimmie Ashcraft from 1980 to 2001. After Dr. Ashcraft’s retirement, she continued her work with Dr. Edward Bergin until she retired in 2015, leaving a lasting impact on colleagues and friends alike.
Genie had a natural charisma that made every gathering brighter; she was the life of the party without even trying. Her infectious laughter and effortless humor drew people of all ages to her, making her a beloved presence wherever she went. Beyond her joyful spirit, Genie was a devoted member of PEO for 34 years, building deep and lasting friendships and loved her bunco group for many years. Her warmth and loyalty created a special bond with those who shared in her passion for service and sisterhood.
Genie is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Douglas Lang, and their three children: Jodi (David) Seitz of Sidney, MT; Jaime (Sam) Hafner of Macungie, PA; and Brian (Lindsey) Lang of Medina, MN. She leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren: Hope Barker, Cristian Seitz, Lilli Seitz, Owen Hafner, Kellen Hafner, Emery Lang, and Evan Lang. She is also remembered by her lifelong friends—Anita Price, Nancy Manning, and Rhonda Peterson—whose steadfast friendship brought joy and warmth throughout the years. And Crystal Lang, who became the little sister she never had.
Gene Ann Lang passed away on May 5, 2025, surrounded by the compassionate care of her beloved SHC Extended Care Nurses and the unwavering presence of her devoted husband. She was reunited in heaven with her father, mother, and brother, Lewis Gillette, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
